Delivery and Unboxing

The chair arrived in a branded box, which I liked. It was nothing out of the ordinary, but it showed that at least some thought went into the presentation.

It gave me the impression that this was a product with its own identity and not just a generic AliExpress chair with a new label slapped on it. The box itself had a few marks, most likely from delivery, but nothing concerning.

Inside the box, everything was well-organized and securely packed. All the chair components were protected, and I found them in perfect condition with no scratches or dents. The packaging did its job, and the unboxing experience was simple and straightforward.

The only downside here is that there was far too much packaging. While I liked how well the chair was protected, using three or four bubble bags just for the armrests seemed excessive, almost as if they did not trust the carrier at all.

A more eco-friendly approach would have been ideal, not only to reduce waste but also to show some thought about sustainability.

ease of installation

Putting the Tonfary Ergonomic Office Chair together was a pretty straightforward process. It took me around 15 minutes, but I used a hand drill, which at this point is simply more convenient after assembling over 100 chairs in the last few years.

This chair easily makes my top five in terms of ease of assembly, and the reason behind that is the labeling. I have not seen labeling this good in years.

The right armrest had a clear label, the back of the seat had markings indicating where everything should go, and even the mechanism had a clear indication of how it should be positioned, whether forward or backward. That level of detail was honestly impressive.

In my case, the labeling did not make a huge difference, since I already know the process by heart. However, for someone who only changes their chair every three to five years, this could save a lot of time and frustration.

I remember when I was first starting out, I had a few situations where I accidentally installed the armrests the wrong way around, which meant redoing part of the build.

With this kind of labeling, that risk is almost completely removed. One small note I would mention is the Allen key included in the box.

It was far too small, which is fairly common with chairs, but it makes the process slower and less comfortable for someone assembling it by hand. Using a drill made it easier for me, but for a regular user this could be slightly frustrating.

Design and Build Quality

At first glance, the Tonfary Ergonomic Office Chair looks modern and professional, the kind of chair that would not feel out of place in either a home office or a corporate setting.

The design is clean, with smooth lines and a minimalist frame that gives it a sleek appearance. I liked that it manages to look stylish without going overboard with flashy elements, which is often the case with some chairs trying too hard to stand out.

The pattern on the chair is another detail I really liked, as it adds a subtle touch of character without being distracting.

In terms of build quality, the materials feel solid. The frame and base are sturdy, and the mesh back feels breathable yet supportive.

Nothing about the chair gave me the impression of being cheap or flimsy. The armrests are firm and wide, the mechanism locks in smoothly, and once everything was tightened during assembly, there was no wobbling or creaking.

Overall, the design strikes a nice balance between aesthetics and practicality, and the build quality gives confidence that the chair should hold up well with daily use.

Comfort and Adjustability

I will start with what impressed me the most, and that is the mesh. It has been a while since I tested a budget chair with good mesh, more exactly since the Flexispot BS12 Pro. The mesh here is surprisingly soft to the touch, not scratchy, not sticky, and not too plasticky either.

I do not want to sound like I am overpraising this chair, but it delivers more than I expected in terms of mesh quality for the price.

Whether sitting with bare skin or just a T-shirt, the mesh feels comfortable, both on the seat and on the backrest.

Moving to the seat, it comes with padding at the front edge, which helps relieve pressure on the thighs. The cushion itself feels supportive without being overly stiff, striking a nice balance between comfort and firmness.

For short sessions, it feels pleasant right away, and even during longer periods it holds up better than many budget chairs I have tested.

The backrest is split into two sections: the upper backrest and the lower portion shaped for lumbar support.

The downside here is that there is no separate, adjustable lumbar support. Instead, the lower back is contoured in a way that provides natural support.

Personally, I find it quite good, though comfort is always subjective. For example, my partner is 165 cm tall and I am 193 cm, and both of us found it acceptable.

The armrests are another highlight. Compared to chairs like the Sihoo M18, Ticova, Duramont, Derffy, and others in this price range, these feel soft, wide, and comfortable.

They do not lock your arms into a fixed position, and they offer a decent level of 3D adjustability for this budget category, which is definitely a plus.

Another pleasant surprise is the depth slide adjustment. Honestly, I did not expect to see this feature here. It is similar to what I tested on the Holludle Ergonomic Office Chair.

While it is not the best implementation on the market, it is a nice touch and adds flexibility for different body types.

And last but not least, the headrest. This is probably the weakest point for me. Comfort-wise it is okay, but the adjustment range is far too small for someone of my height.

Tonfary Ergonomic Office Chair Review

The first time I tried to adjust it, I accidentally pulled it out completely and almost lost the wide clip that holds it in place. The installation process felt a bit clunky, and for me, being tall, it ended up being useless, so I removed it.

For future versions, a true 3D adjustable headrest with more range would be a huge improvement and could make this chair a serious contender for the title of best budget office chair.

Performance Over Time

After a few weeks of daily use, the Tonfary Ergonomic Office Chair has held up well. The mesh kept its shape without sagging, staying supportive and breathable.

The seat cushion also maintained its firmness, unlike many budget chairs where you feel the base after a short time.

The mechanism works smoothly with no squeaks or wobbling, and the armrests remain stable. The only weak point is still the headrest, which I removed early on due to its limited range.

Overall, the chair performs better than most budget options I have tested and feels reliable for long-term use.

Price Value

The Tonfary Ergonomic Office Chair usually sells for around 140 to 160 US dollars depending on the retailer and any active promotions.

In the UK it often comes in at under 200 pounds, which places it firmly in the budget to midrange category.

For that price, you get a chair with good mesh, decent padding, solid build quality, 3D adjustable armrests, and even a seat depth adjustment.

Many competitors in this range skip at least one of these features, so overall the Tonfary delivers strong value.

At the higher end of its price point it is still a fair deal, but when found closer to the lower end it becomes a very attractive option and one of the better choices for this budget segment.

Is It Worth It?

In all fairness, yes. After testing so many chairs over the years, I can confidently say the Tonfary Ergonomic Office Chair is one of the better options in its category.

It surprised me in several areas, especially the mesh quality, which feels far better than what you normally get at this price.

Tonfary Ergonomic Office Chair Review

If I had to choose between this and other common budget options like Sihoo, Ticova, or Derffy, I would go for the Tonfary without hesitation.

It simply feels more refined and thought out in terms of comfort and usability. Of course, it is not perfect.

The headrest is a weak point, and the excess packaging could be improved with a more eco-friendly approach. But those downsides do not outweigh the overall experience the chair delivers.

For anyone shopping under the 200 pound or 160 dollar mark, the Tonfary is absolutely worth considering. It offers a mix of comfort, build quality, and features that are hard to beat in the budget to midrange bracket.
