If there’s one thing I’ve learned over the years, it’s that good lighting can completely change how you feel at your desk.
Whether you’re working, reading, or creating, the right light makes everything easier on your eyes and helps you stay focused longer. Poor lighting, however, can quickly make even simple tasks feel exhausting.
That’s why I decided it was time to upgrade my desk lamp. As always, here on YourOfficeGear, I want to share my firsthand experience with products I actually use.
For those who haven’t followed my recent reviews, I’ve already tested the BenQ Halo 2 ScreenBar, which turned out to be an excellent product.
So naturally, I wanted to see if BenQ could deliver the same level of quality in a traditional desk lamp.
So, without further ado, let’s take a closer look at the BenQ WiT e-Reading Desk Lamp review and find out if it’s worth the investment.
- Well-handled cable management keeps the desk tidy
- Quick and easy setup without needing extra tools
- Excellent lighting performance
- Smooth and stable adjustability for tilt, swivel, and height
- Premium build quality that feels solid and durable
- The base is large and heavy, taking up a lot of desk space
- No remote function or companion app, which would make adjustments easier

Delivery and Unboxing
The BenQ WiT e-Reading Desk Lamp arrived in two packages. The first was a plain brown box with the BenQ logo, designed to prevent any damage from the outside, while inside was the main branded package, which looked elegant and felt surprisingly heavy, something I did not expect at all.

Unboxing the lamp felt like a premium experience. Honestly, I have not seen so many holders and protective layers for a lamp in my life, and I have unboxed quite a few products. Each component had its own holder with two or three layers of protection.

Overall, the unboxing clearly shows the effort BenQ puts into minimizing any damage during transit. Everything feels next level, and it definitely gives you that premium product first impression.

Ease of Installation
Setting up the BenQ WiT e-Reading Desk Lamp was straightforward. Everything comes clearly labeled, and the instructions are easy to follow, even for those who are not very tech-savvy. I had it fully assembled in just a few minutes, without needing any extra tools beyond those included in the box.

One thing worth mentioning is the plug. It comes with a main power unit and two interchangeable extensions, one for Europe and one for the UK.

All you have to do is detach and attach the one that fits your country. I really like this feature, and the fact that I did not need to buy an additional adaptor makes it even better.

Apart from that, there is not much else to say about the setup process. You simply insert the lamp into the base, adjust the tension with the small hex key provided, and you are good to go.

Design and Build Quality
Right from the moment you see the lamp, it is almost impossible to take your eyes off it. The modern minimalist design is elegant and fits perfectly on any desk.

Cable management is handled well. They have hidden it as much as possible while still allowing the lamp to remain flexible and easy to adjust.
When it comes to build quality, I have nothing negative to say. The price is reflected in the product, as everything feels solid and well-built.

The lamp really does give a premium feel that matches its price point. To be honest, I know it is a bit early to talk about price, but 200 pounds is 200 pounds, and it is hard to ignore that when we are talking about a lamp. Expectations are naturally very high.

The only downsides are that the base is huge and really heavy, which takes up quite a bit of desk space, and that the accessories are sold at a premium price as well.

Performance
The BenQ WiT e-Reading Desk Lamp really stands out when it comes to performance. Using a light meter, I tested the lamp at different brightness levels and color temperatures.
At maximum brightness, it consistently delivers around 1,200 lux at desk level, which is more than enough for reading, writing, or computer work.

Even at lower settings, it stays comfortable and does not flicker, ranging between 300 and 600 lux, perfect for late-night work or ambient lighting.
The lamp provides excellent coverage across the desk without creating harsh shadows or glare. I also tested the color temperature, which ranges from 3,000K warm white to 5,700K daylight.
This allows you to customize the lighting depending on the task, whether you want a warmer, relaxing light or a cooler, more alert-focused light.

Adjustability is another strong point. You can tilt, swivel, and position the lamp with ease, and the arm stays stable once set. The controls are intuitive, and the auto-dimming feature responds quickly when ambient light changes.

The only feature I wish it had is a remote function like in the BenQ Halo 2, or at least a companion app. Being able to adjust brightness and color temperature without leaning over the desk would be amazing, and I hope to see something like this in a future model.
Overall, the lamp is both versatile and highly functional. From my tests, it delivers consistent, high-quality light that makes a real difference for prolonged desk work.

Price and Value
At around £200, the BenQ WiT e-Reading Desk Lamp is definitely an investment. It is not cheap, but you can feel the quality and thought that has gone into its design, build, and performance.
From the premium materials to the smooth adjustability and excellent lighting coverage, it feels like you are getting your money’s worth.
For someone who spends long hours at a desk, the lamp’s eye-care features, brightness, and color temperature range make it more than just a standard light.

It is a tool that can actually improve comfort and productivity. While the price might feel high compared to basic desk lamps, the combination of design, durability, and performance makes it a solid value for a premium workspace accessory.

Is It Worth It?
Yes, the BenQ WiT e-Reading Desk Lamp is definitely worth it. Between the premium build, excellent lighting performance, and thoughtful design, it delivers a high-quality experience that makes a real difference for anyone who spends long hours at a desk.
Even though some accessories come at an extra cost and do not have a remote function, it is still worth it in my opinion.
